Youth Insight with #33 Ashley Hatch, Washington Spirit Forward
What is the biggest thing you learned from your youth playing days that you still use as a professional athlete now?
One of the biggest things I learned was to always work on using both feet. Feeling comfortable shooting, dribbling, and passing with both feet has been such a help throughout my career.
What is one thing every youth athlete should know about the recruiting process?
The recruiting process is different for everyone and there are so many amazing schools out there. Do not compare your process to anyone else’s and do not give up on soccer if your dream school denies you. Explore all your options!
What is your favorite memory from your youth career?
My favorite memory from my youth career is easily playing with my younger sister. She is two grades below me, but she was always good enough to play two years up with me. One of our top memories was winning our high school’s first ever state championship together my junior year and her freshmen year. She made the game winning PK in the semi-finals and I made the game winning PK in the finals.
If you could give youth players one piece of advice, what would it be?
Do not be afraid to succeed. Do not be afraid to try hard and do your best especially when others around you are not. Be your best self and it will help those around you be their best also. To me being your best self is about controlling your attitude and always choosing to work hard.
